【Abstract】 Dunhuang Manuscript S. 2926 contains three Buddhist scriptures: 1. Fo-shuo-wu chang-san-qi-jing, 2. Fo-shuo-jiao-liang-shu-zhu-gong-de-jing, 3. Fo-shuo-yao-xing-She- shen-jing. The present paper only presents a eomprehesive study of the "Fo-shuo-jiao-liang-shu-zhu-gong-de-jing"There are two kinds of Chinese versions of this scripture. The first one was translated by Bao Siwei, the latter one by Yi Jing. The scripture in MSS2926 is the first oneand differs from the present print of the Japanese Compilation of Great Buddhist Scriptures in seven places. It is the most reliable one and can make up a deficiency in the "present print". The contents of the scripture reveals that beads exerted the great influence in popularization of Buddhist belief:Beads could be made of’varied materials as a result, it brought convenient for popularization of Buddhist belief,The best beads were 108 in number because they could avert 108 sorts of the vexations. Beads which were made of Bodhi tree seeds were the most precious. There is also the"Nian-zhu-jie’(gatha for beads)found in Dunhuang MS S4243.The scripture in MS S2926 contains a long in scription at end and is one of two such scriptures of known Dunhuang manuscripts. The present paper discusses two questions in particular: 1. According to the contents of the inscription, Buddhist scripture could be classified:scripture written for prayer, (scripture written for one’s own use, )scripture written by scholars who were hired by local authorities or by the imperial court. And the latter could be divided into six types:the original edition, the copy. the store one and the one to the throne ,the one rewarded by the emperor, examined and approved one as well MS S2926 was the examined one2. Judging from the "Xiang ding Lie wei’(examiners)in the inscription, the paper does a textual research on scholars of Zhao Wen School and the system of the examination and evaluation in compilation and publication of manuscripts in the Tang Dynasty, "Xiang ding lie wei" provids valuable materials to the study of the history. Consulting the achievements of the scholars recorded in it, the author finds that the official titles of scholars, such as Zhang Qixian, Wei Liqi, Shen Quanqi, Qiu Yue, Li Yi, Lu Zangyong, Jia Lingfu, Xu Yanbo, Cui Shi,Xue Ji etc ,could be a supplement to Biographies in the New and Old Tang Annuals. This manuscript is not the one written in the 1st year of Yan Huo of the Tang Dynasty (712AD), but a copy written in the later periods.
